SINGAPORE – WAGES LIKELY TO FACE DOWNWARD PRESSURE: HAYS
(Mar.5, 2019, /staffingindustry.com/) Professional salaries in Singapore are likely to face downward pressure this year, recruitment firm Hays Plc (HAS: LSE) reported in its Hays Asia Salary Guide 2019.
It said 17% of employees in Singapore received no salary increase last year, and 32% of employees received increases of 3% or less. For this year, 40% of firms plan salary increases of 3% or less.
“With positive sentiments surrounding the growth of the economy, business activity and hiring levels, employees may begin to wonder why this improvement is not being passed on to them in terms of compensation packages”, said Grant Torrens, regional director at Hays Singapore, “perhaps leading them to rival organisations that could meet their salary expectations”.
Another finding: 12% of employers are offering no bonuses this year, up from 9% last year.
Overall throughout Asia, Hay’s found that 15% of employers say their salaries are unchanged this year compared to 9% in 2018.
