UK - THIRD OF EMPLOYERS REDESIGNING ROLES; NEW FOCUS ON ‘SOFT’ SKILLS AS PANDEMIC DRAGS ON
(Sept.21, 2020, /staffingindustry.com/)Nearly one-third of employers in the UK, 29%, are redesigning roles in response to the impact of Covid-19, according to a survey by staffing firm Robert Half International. Digital and technical skills remain important, but 41% of employers said “soft” skills will be key to dealing with the ongoing uncertainty of the pandemic.
Top in-demand soft skills included creative thinking, which was cited by 38% of executives surveyed; agility, 36%; effective communication, 35%; strong leadership, 33%; and strategic thinking, 29%.
“The Covid-19 pandemic has changed the way many of us do business, both now and in the future,” said Matt Weston, managing director of Robert Half UK. “Remote working has enabled talent pools around the world to open up which, for some companies, means that existing employees with key skills can be redeployed in the short-term to deliver business-critical roles.”
Despite the new focus on soft skills, Robert Half’s survey also found that skills such as IT security and IT management remain important, as do skills in financial management and business planning and analysis.
